2023 2FA made mandatory on all customer accounts

Webnames.ca Makes Two-Factor Authentication Mandatory to Strengthen Account Security

Vancouver, BC, March 21, 2023 - Security isn’t optional, and now, neither is Two-Factor Authentication. As of today, Webnames.ca has made 2FA mandatory for all customer accounts, reinforcing our commitment to protecting users from unauthorized access, phishing, and credential-based attacks. The move comes as part of a broader initiative to raise the bar for account security.

“We’ve always taken security seriously, but the threat landscape has changed,” said Cybele Negris, CEO and Co-Founder of Webnames.ca. “Making two-factor authentication mandatory is about protecting our customers before something goes wrong. It’s a simple step that makes a big difference, and it’s the right thing to do.”

The new policy applies to all Webnames accounts and requires users to enable 2FA using an authenticator app or text message verification. Customers who haven’t activated 2FA will be prompted to do so at login. While some platforms treat 2FA as optional, Webnames is taking a firmer stance, one that reflects the growing importance of digital identity protection.
