Webnames.ca Launches .MENU Domain Registrations

Vancouver, British Columbia - (December 19, 2013) – Webnames.ca, Canada’s original domain registrar and a leading provider of web solutions in Canada, is pleased to announce the launch of the .MENU generic Top Level Domain extension and is now accepting pre-orders.

“.MENU opens up opportunities for restaurants, chefs, bakeries, cafes, food associations, food bloggers and foodies,” said Webnames.ca Co-Founder and CEO, Cybele Negris. In today’s fast paced world of mobile devices, customers want quick access to information and .MENU allows a quick way to find a restaurant’s menu, place an order for takeout or make a reservation. Aside from .MENU, 25 new domain extensions have launched in a span of a month. The launch is part of a massive expansion to the number of domain extensions from the current 22 generic Top Level Domains to over 1000 in the next few years.

Ian Tostenson, President of the British Columbia Restaurant and Foodservices Association says that their members are definitely interested in .MENU. “Many of the larger restaurant chains as well as smaller restaurants will be protecting their brands they worked so hard to build up. We have worked with Webnames.ca for many years and will be recommending their services to our members.”

.MENU began with a 60-day Sunrise Period specifically for trademark holders on December 9, 2013, to be followed by a 30-day Landrush Period February 10, 2014 where the general public can purchase the name at a premium price before the General Availability launch on March 17, 2014.

“Our recommendation to those interested in .MENU is to pre-order as early as possible to secure your spot on the submission queue” said Ms. Negris “Pre-ordering will help you secure the .MENU name that you want and also allows us to submit your application during the phase that you wish to participate in.”

Pre-ordering for .MENU domain names can be made through www.webnames.ca/domain. Customers can pre-order for free and will only be charged if their domain is successfully registered.

Trademark holders who want to protect their trademarks and brands are advised to participate during the Sunrise Period for .MENU. The Sunrise Period is a priority period where trademark holders can register domain names that match their trademarks. Participating in the Sunrise Period requires validating trademarks through the Trademark Clearinghouse, which may take up to 34 days. Trademark holders who have successfully validated their trademarks will receive a Signed Mark Data (SMD) file as proof of a trademark’s “use”. Webnames.ca is the only Canadian Agent accredited to offer the Trademark Clearinghouse service which is available at www.webnames.ca/trademark.
