Overview
Once the SSL Certificate configuration data has been submitted to the certificate Vendor, the Vendor will validate the domain, the control thereof, and optionally the business identity, depending on the type of SSL Certificate being purchased.
SSL Certificate Validation can take anywhere from 10 minutes to several days. Each type of Certificate has its own validation process and timeline. The thoroughness of the validation process is one of the primary differences between all SSL Certificates. SSL Certificates which are quickly validated and issued, will be done so via carefully monitored automated processes, while the Certificates requiring more time for validation will be manually audited by a Security Analyst. The applicant will also be asked to supply additional documentation as part of the validation process.
To maintain the integrity and security of the validation process, as well as to prevent exploits, the exact validation process and requirements for each Certificate type are never disclosed.
