Registrant Transfers

The existing domain registration must currently be with Webnames.ca as the Registrar of record. If the existing registration is through another registrar, please use the Registrar Transfer function.

Registrant transfers DO NOT include a one-year extension to the term of your domain name.

Registrant Transfer Process

1. Confirm the following information for the domain via a WHOIS lookup [Search the WHOIS]:
   1. Ensure that the Admin Contact (including contact information) listed is current and valid.
2. Set up an account with Webnames, if you do not already have one.
3. Confirm, choose or create a Registrant (owner) for the domain(s).
4. As the expiration date of the domain is not advanced as part of the Registrant transfer process, there is no charge for Registrant transfers.
5. If gaining and losing Registrants reside in the Webnames.ca account, or are configured in a Parent-Child configuration:
   1. The transfer request will automatically be submitted to the respective Registry
   2. The Registrant transfer will complete within a few minutes
   3. The domain(s) will then become active within the respective Webnames.ca account.
6. If gaining and losing Registrants reside in separate Webnames.ca accounts:
   1. Once the transfer request has been submitted via our website, a request to authorize the transfer will be sent first to the Gaining Registrant email address, and then the Losing Registrant email address. Registrants have a combined 5 days to respond to the transfer request.
   2. Once approval from both parties has been received:
      1. The transfer request will automatically be submitted to the respective Registry
      2. The Registrant transfer will complete within a few minutes
      3. The domain(s) will then become active within the respective Webnames.ca account

The status of your transfers can be monitored via My Account > My Transfers.
