Create or Manage Name Servers

In order to use/assign name servers to a domain name, each name serverClosed In computing, a name server is a computer server that hosts a network service for providing responses to queries against a directory service. It maps a human-recognizable identifier to a system-internal, often numeric, identification or addressing component. This service is performed by the server according to a network service protocol. must first be registered at the respective registry. (Doing so creates a Glue RecordClosed Glue records are entries submitted directly to Registries, needed to prevent circular references. Circular references exist where the name servers for a domain can't be resolved without resolving the domain they're responsible for. Glue records are separate from DNS records. for a name server which basically defines the IP addressClosed An Internet Protocol address (IP address) is a numerical label assigned to each device (e.g., computer, printer) participating in a computer network that uses the Internet Protocol for communication. An IP address serves two principal functions: host or network interface identification and location addressing of the name server so it can be found on the Internet.)

This step need only be done once per name server, and this step is typically performed by the administrator of said name server at the time it is first brought online.

To either register new name servers or update the IP address(es) of an existing name server (i.e. maintain the Glue RecordClosed Glue records are entries submitted directly to Registries, needed to prevent circular references. Circular references exist where the name servers for a domain can't be resolved without resolving the domain they're responsible for. Glue records are separate from DNS records. for a name server at the respective RegistryClosed A domain name registry is a database of all domain names registered in a top-level domain. A registry operator, also called a network information center (NIC), is the part of the Domain Name System (DNS) of the Internet that keeps the database of domain names, and generates the zone files which convert domain names to IP addresses.), please take the following steps:

NOTE: This process is ONLY for the registration management of name servers, such as ns1.yourdomainname.ca.

To manage the functionality of your domain name itself, please choose another option. Refer to Domain Routing for more information.

NOTE: The IP address fields on this interface support both IPv4 and IPv6Closed IPv6 (Internet Protocol version 6) is the latest revision of the Internet Protocol (IP), the primary communications protocol upon which the entire Internet is built. It is intended to replace the older IPv4, which is still employed for the vast majority of Internet traffic. formats, and support multiple IP addresses assignments wherever supported by the respective Registry.

Changes will be immediately submitted to the respective Registry for the domain, however please allow approximately 1 hour for the changes to take effect.
