Domain Registrations
Domain registrations are a straightforward and simple process. Domains are typically registered to an individual or company for a period of 1 to 10 years. Rights to the domain, and the functionality thereof are maintained so long as the renewal date of the domain remains in the future.
Each domain extension (.CA, .COM etc.) is the property of a Registry, (e.g. CIRA is the Registry for the .CA domain). Domain Registrations are technically an agreement with the Registrant (i.e. the consumer) to lease the rights to a name from the Registry for a predetermined amount of time. As Registries do not interface with consumers directly, this lease agreement is facilitated through a Registrar, such as Webnames.ca
A valid domain registration entitles the Registrant to exclusive use of the domain name (provided terms of use as well as presence requirements, etc. are met) for use with services such as websites and email addresses.
Many different domain extensions are available for general registration. Please see our complete list located here.
The process to register a domain name begins with a domain name search, in order to determine availability. Please visit our domain search page to get started.
